I have taken a career path that allowed me to experience public works contracting as an owner’s representative, consultant engineer, and contractor. It is this unique experience that provides me a holistic view of public works, from developing plans and specifications through construction completion.
I understand how public utilities are operated and the challenges faced with ever-increasing budget scrutiny. I also understand that construction firms face stiff competition for each contract. It is through this lens that I look at design for opportunities to bring clarity to the scope, and during construction to focus on success for all parties.
Away from work, I enjoy spending time in the great outdoors with my family. We are fortunate enough to live close to several community forest lands that are excellent for hiking, trail running, biking, and fishing. Life is short; we try to cherish the moments as they come.
What’s your favorite season?
Summer. The warmth and extended daylight alone make it my favorite. The abundance and variety of local fresh fruit and vegetables are an added bonus...not to mention the wild berries for picking while hiking.
Where do you go for a weekend getaway?
Fairhaven district of Bellingham. Lots of opportunities for good beer drinking and bike riding.
What’s the most important part of your morning routine?
Getting up at a consistent time. My whole day feels off if I sleep in.
If I could have any superpower, I would...
fly! Being stuck in traffic sucks!
What was your first job?
Domino’s pizza. Working a hot pizza oven in the middle of summer is good motivation for pursuing other career opportunities.
