Scholarship Details:

● Award Amount: $1,500

● Number of Awards: One per academic year

Eligibility Criteria:

● Enrolled as a junior, senior, or graduate student for the 2024-2025 academic year in an accredited civil or environmental engineering program at a university or college in the United States.

● Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

● Demonstrated commitment to the field of civil or environmental engineering through coursework, projects, internships, volunteering, student organizations or other extracurricular activities.

Application Deadline: June 15, 2024

Winner Announcement: August 1, 2024

Application Process:

To apply for the Grayling Engineers Scholarship, interested students must submit the following documents via email to scholarship@graylingeng.com:

Resume: Provide a detailed resume highlighting your academic background, work experience, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and any honors or awards received.

Letter of Recommendation: Include a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, advisor, or professional mentor who can speak to your academic achievements, character, and potential in the field of civil or environmental engineering.

Academic Transcript: Submit an official or unofficial transcript showing your current GPA and completed coursework.

Essay: Write a 300-700 word essay on one of the following topics:

  • The role of civil/environmental engineers in ensuring access to clean drinking water: Contemplate the vital role that engineers play in ensuring communities have access to safe and clean drinking water, emphasizing the significance of your potential contribution to public health and well-being.
  • Innovations in wastewater treatment and management: Discuss the latest innovations and advancements in wastewater treatment and management, considering how you could contribute to creating more sustainable and efficient solutions for managing wastewater.
  • The importance of infrastructure resilience in protecting water resources: Examine the importance of infrastructure resilience in protecting water resources from natural disasters and other threats, brainstorming strategies for designing and implementing resilient infrastructure to ensure water security for communities.
  • Leveraging technology for monitoring and improving water quality: Explore the role of technology in monitoring and improving water quality, brainstorming innovative tools and techniques that civil/environmental engineers can leverage to safeguard water resources and enhance environmental stewardship.
  • Promoting equity and social justice in access to safe drinking water: Reflect on the importance of promoting equity and social justice in access to safe drinking water, brainstorming ways engineers can advocate for inclusive policies and initiatives to ensure equitable access for all communities.
  • My journey to civil/environmental engineering: Reflect on your journey in choosing engineering, sharing your passion, sources of inspiration, and career aspirations.
  • The impact of mentorship: Recognize the impact of mentorship on your career in civil/environmental engineering, and how a mentor has influenced your path in engineering, reflecting on the guidance, support, and valuable insights that shape your professional journey.
  • My love for the outdoors: Explore how your deep appreciation for nature and commitment to environmental conservation influence your interest and approach to civil/environmental engineering.
  • A day in the life of a civil/environmental engineering student: Provide insights into your daily life as an engineering student, discussing the challenges you face, the successes you achieve, and the valuable lessons you learn along the way.

Selection Process:

● All applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee composed of Grayling Engineers professionals.

● Selection criteria include academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, involvement in extracurricular activities, passion for civil or environmental engineering, and the quality of the essay.

● The scholarship winner will be notified via email and announced on our website and social media channels.

● The winner will need to provide a headshot to be posted on our website and social media channels.
